SEAS™ achieves SIF certification

Leading special education management system now compliant with K12 industry interfacing standard for easier integration with other applications

Mountain Home , AR – September 8, 2005 – Computer Automation Systems, Inc., the leader in special education automation software, today announced that its SEAS™ solution has been awarded SIF compliance certification through the Open Group.

A 100% Web-based product, SEAS is a full special education student management system. It is designed to provide ease-of use for special educators while delivering comprehensive functionality needed to easily manage forms and reports tied to state-standard curriculum, compliance, related services tracking, reporting and analysis, and Medicaid billing.

“We've helped customers interface SEAS with their student management system for years,” said Kevin Tyler, Computer Automation's Director of Product Design. “Recently, our customers have begun embracing the SIF standard and in some of the states we serve, it's mandated. We've become the leader in the market by listening to our customers and responding to their needs so this was a natural path for us.”

The SIF initiative focuses on integrating the transfer of data between different K-12 software applications to reduce redundant data entry and increase data integrity. SIF-certified applications can communicate and share information, easing the system integration process and allowing school districts to combine best-of-breed solutions from different areas to build the best overall information system possible. Customers that adopt the SIF standard can integrate their SEAS special education management system with their student information system and other district systems in a standard, reliable fashion eliminating the need for costly development of custom interfaces.

Computer Automation made the investment in achieving certification to demonstrate their continued commitment to their customers. “School district data is a vital asset because it's all about each individual student,” said George Hill, VP of Development. “Special education data is even more critical. We felt it was important for our customers to know that we value their data as highly as they do and will do everything we can to make their jobs easier. With this certification, school districts can stop worrying about data issues and focus on their number one job, teaching kids.”

About SIF

The Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) is an industry initiative to develop an open specification for ensuring that K-12 instructional and administrative software applications work together more effectively. SIF is not a product, but rather an industry-supported technical blueprint for K-12 software that will enable diverse applications to interact and share data seamlessly; now and in the future. SIF makes it possible for them to communicate using a common interface and standard data formats. SIF certification is managed through a third-party agency, the Open Group (www.opengroup.org/sif/cert/cert_prodlist.tpl ). For additional information, visit www.sifinfo.org.
